It’s important to measure the computer you intend to use for work and be honest with your results. Failing components in this test will not automatically disqualify you and your application.
If you have questions or doubts you may need to contact your local IT professional or help desk and ask for their help.

Connection Type (Wired or Wireless internet connection) |
The advantages of using wired connections include dedicated bandwidth instead of having share with other users, less attacks of network traffic interruptions, and less susceptible to interference and outages than wireless access points. You need to plug in a UTP (internet) cable to your computer that is connected directly to your modem/router. |
Machine Type (Laptop or Desktop) |
Advantages of a desktop computer, as compared to a laptop computer: Desktop computers usually have more power and more features. Desktop computers are easier, and less expensive, to upgrade. Desktop computers have a lower risk of theft, which means less chance of losing your data and having to pay to replace your computer. You need to switch to another device and continue the assessment. |
Operating System (Windows or MacOS) |
If your future employer requires Windows over MacOS, that may be because the software that you need to run for your work can be only installed on Windows computers. Maybe you need to contact a professional and ask their help. You need to switch to another device that runs Windows and continue the assessment or maybe you can install windows on your current device. |
Processor Cores and Speed |
A processor (CPU) provides the instructions that multiple applications and processes need to perform their jobs. The faster it does that, the faster a computer operates. Faster computers often translate into increased productivity and efficiency. Some devices you can easily replace the processor, in some cases it’s almost impossible. Maybe you need to contact a professional and ask their help. You need to switch to another device and continue the assessment. |
RAM capacity (memory) |
Generally, the more and faster RAM your device has the better and faster the processing speed. With more RAM, you increase the speed of your computer. Meaning, your fast processor now has an equally fast way of talking to the other components, making your computer much more efficient. Some devices you can easily replace or expand the RAM capacity, in some cases it’s almost impossible. Maybe you need to contact a professional and ask their help. You need to switch to another device and continue the assessment. |
Free storage (hard drive space) |
Your computer needs to have a given amount of free storage space (SSD, HDD / Hard Drive capacity) to run but also your work software need space to install. Some devices you can easily replace or expand the hard drive capacity, in some cases it’s almost impossible. Maybe you need to contact a professional and ask their help. You need to switch to another device and continue the assessment. |
Browser version |
The most important reason to keep your browser up-to-date is to keep your computer safe and secure, protecting you from identity theft, phishing attacks, viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, and other sorts of malware. Many browser updates are issued to combat just these problems. You need to update your browser or install an alternative browser and run your assessment from that. |
Screen resolution |
Higher resolutions mean that there more pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in more pixel information and creating a high-quality, crisp image. Images with lower resolutions have fewer pixels, and if those few pixels are too large (usually when an image is stretched), they can become visible like the image below. Maybe you can still adjust your current resolution on your monitor or maybe you need a secondary monitor in the future. Read more at Microsoft’s Support site. |
Has a secondary monitor |
Using a second monitor makes it far easier and faster to use multiple programs simultaneously. Instead of having to switch between full-screen windows, the second program can be put on the second monitor, making for fewer clicks and faster workflow. You could purchase or borrow a monitor and connect to your computer if that computer has the necessary video ports to support it. |
Using Virtual Machine (VM) |
A virtual machine is the virtualization/emulation of a computer system. Virtual machines are based on computer architectures and provide functionality of a physical computer. Virtual machines are less efficient than real machines because they access the hardware indirectly. Running software on top of the host operating system means that it will have to request access to the hardware from the host. That will slow the usability. You need to switch to a device that runs the required Operation System without virtualization. |
Antivirus |
Antivirus software is a software which is designed to detect, block and then remove a virus from our computer system. It's recommended that you have an antivirus program installed on your computer at all times. |
Firewall |
A firewall is a security software that can help protect your computer by filtering traffic and blocking outsiders from gaining unauthorized access to the private data on your computer. On Windows, you can use the built-in Windows Defender or any other application. MacOS also comes with built in firewall. Read more at Microsoft’s Support site. |
Antispyware |
Anti Spyware is a software that aims to detect specific set of malicious applications known as Spywares. Spyware is malicious software which finds its way onto your computer and will track data about you and your computer usage and use this to obtain sensitive information about users or intercept advertising on your computer. Spyware can change your computer settings, and in almost every case slow down your computer. It's recommended that you have an anti-spyware program installed on your computer at all times. |
Windows Update Enabled |
Both spyware and viruses take advantage of loop holes un-discovered by Microsoft within Windows. Keeping your computer up to date with Windows updates is as important as keeping your antivirus software up to date. Turn on automatic updates for Windows:

Windows is up-to-date |
Both spyware and viruses take advantage of loopholes un-discovered by Microsoft within Windows. Keeping your computer up to date with Windows updates is as important as keeping your antivirus software up to date. You can update your Windows, this may require restarting your computer, but you can come back and continue your application after that): Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button in the lower-left corner. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click either Windows Update or Check for updates. Click the Check for updates button and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer Read more at Microsoft’s Support site. |
Using VPN |
A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, allows you to create a secure connection to another network over the Internet. VPNs can be used to access region-restricted websites, shield your browsing activity from prying eyes on public Wi-Fi, and more. VPNs can mean that you try to hide your real presence. We kindly ask you to disable this connection while doing this test. |
Using TOR |
If you are using TOR network as an anonymizer method, your future employer may think you want to hide your real presence. We kindly ask you to disable your TOR network connection during this test. |
Other measurements (such as GEO Location or Device model) are usually not benchmarked, your future employer is not interested in those details.
